According to Rotoworld the Mets have declined to offer salary arbitration to C Paul Lo Duca, C Sandy Alomar Jr., 1B Jeff Conine, C Mike DiFelice, INF Damion Easley, OF Shawn Green, RHP Aaron Sele and 2B Jose Valentin.

No big surprises here. Easley's deal still isn't official, but he has agreed to terms with the Mets. I really don't see any of the others coming back unless it's for minor league deals, then I could see both DiFelice or Sele accepting those roles. Read More...

The Mets have DFA'd catcher Sandy Alomar Jr.

Alomar had been with the major league club since Ramon Castro went down last week with arthritis in his back.

With first string catcher Paul LoDuca expected to return to the club for this week's series with the Phillies, the Mets needed to make room on the roster, and it appears the Mets will be sticking with veteran Mike Difelice as the backup catcher until Ramon Castro returns from his stint on the DL.

If Alomar clears waivers, he will most likely return to AAA New Orleans, and will likely rejoin the club in September when rosters expand. Read More...

Paul Lo Duca was set to play his first rehab game for Single-A Brooklyn last night but it was canceled because of fog. He's set to catch the first game of a doubleheader for Brooklyn today, then serve as the DH in the nightcap.

Lo Duca also is scheduled to play tomorrow for Double-A Binghamton. He's been out with an ailing right hamstring and expects to come off the disabled list Monday.

Good news on the injury front. Though Mike DiFelice and Sandy Alomar Jr. have done a pretty decent job with Paulie out, you have to kind of wonder how long that was going to last. The Mets have placed backup catcher Ramon Castro on the DL retroactive to August 13th. Castro was only supposed to miss a few games, but the arthritis in his back has not improved. With Paul LoDuca also on the DL, this is a huge blow to the Mets, who will be looking to Mike Difelice and Sandy Alomar Jr. to carry the load at catcher for the next week or two.
