Add The Keith Hernandez Quotes Generator To Your Website

Ok, so a number of people have contacted me asking me where I got the Keith Hernandez Quotes Generator, and how they can put it on their site.

First, I created the generator with the aid of the thousands of fans in the Facebook group who contributed to one of the greatest threads we have, appropriately titled "The Official Keith Hernandez Quotes Thread" This is where our quotes come from.

Second, until now, I hadn't made the generator available to be put on other sites because one, I didn't think there would be an interest, and two, I didn't know how to do it in such a way that it would be simple for anyone to integrate into their site.

Third, here are the directions on how to integrate it to your site...

1. The site you want to put it on must support javascript, that means no facebook, and no MySpace... sorry, as of now, as far as I know there is no way to get around this.

2. Copy and paste the following code to the appropriate place on your site, where you want it to appear. (Blogger users add a new page element, and select HTML/Javascript)

<!--Keith Image--><img src="http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z182/GlobalNYM/keith.png" width="100px"><!--Quotes Generator--><script src="http://www.freewebs.com/globalnym/keithquotes.js"></script><!--Developed By Mike Peters of Global Mets http://GlobalNYM.blogspot.com-->

3. You may want to customize the code for your site. You'll notice the code is broken into two parts, the "Keith image" and "quotes generator" sections. If you don't want the image of Keith to accompany the generator, simply delete that part of the code. You can change the size of Keith's image by changing the width part to a pixel size that works for you. (the original file size is 500px x 500px, so anything smaller than 500, should look fine). You can also position the image using align.

4. The quotes generator: You may also want to position the generator to your liking. The default displays the quote below the image, you can alter it to display to the side of you like as well, by using align.

5. The great thing about the way this is designed, is that as I add more quotes in the future, this code will automatically update to include the new quotes.

Great idea! I've popped it into my sidebar and it's there to stay.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth but I do have a request. If there is any way possible to do it, what are the chances you can get all the quotes in the database re-done with correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling, etc.? If necessary, I'd volunteer to fix all the quotes! It's a great idea and I think Keith deserves a top notch tribute to his way with words.

Email me, stop by my blog, whatever. Stay in touch and Let's Go Mets!

Bravo. This is exactly the kind of thing Mr. Berners-Lee had in mind when he invented the web.
