Add The Keith Hernandez Quotes Generator To Your Website

Ok, so a number of people have contacted me asking me where I got the Keith Hernandez Quotes Generator, and how they can put it on their site.

First, I created the generator with the aid of the thousands of fans in the Facebook group who contributed to one of the greatest threads we have, appropriately titled "The Official Keith Hernandez Quotes Thread" This is where our quotes come from.

Second, until now, I hadn't made the generator available to be put on other sites because one, I didn't think there would be an interest, and two, I didn't know how to do it in such a way that it would be simple for anyone to integrate into their site.

Third, here are the directions on how to integrate it to your site...

1. The site you want to put it on must support javascript, that means no facebook, and no MySpace... sorry, as of now, as far as I know there is no way to get around this.

2. Copy and paste the following code to the appropriate place on your site, where you want it to appear. (Blogger users add a new page element, and select HTML/Javascript)

<!--Keith Image--><img src="http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z182/GlobalNYM/keith.png" width="100px"><!--Quotes Generator--><script src="http://www.freewebs.com/globalnym/keithquotes.js"></script><!--Developed By Mike Peters of Global Mets http://GlobalNYM.blogspot.com-->

3. You may want to customize the code for your site. You'll notice the code is broken into two parts, the "Keith image" and "quotes generator" sections. If you don't want the image of Keith to accompany the generator, simply delete that part of the code. You can change the size of Keith's image by changing the width part to a pixel size that works for you. (the original file size is 500px x 500px, so anything smaller than 500, should look fine). You can also position the image using align.

4. The quotes generator: You may also want to position the generator to your liking. The default displays the quote below the image, you can alter it to display to the side of you like as well, by using align.

5. The great thing about the way this is designed, is that as I add more quotes in the future, this code will automatically update to include the new quotes.

Mets Fan Extension for Firefox

Global Mets reader Kenn Kerper has created a Mets Fan Extension for users of the popular Mozilla Firefox browser.

The extension is basically a drop down menu that has links to all the essential Mets related websites from Mets.com to Metsblog and to this very site.

According to our latest Browser share statistics, about 44% of our readers use Firefox to access our site, so if you're part of that 44%, I'd strongly recommend you try this extension out, it's a must have for readers of the Mets blogoshpere.

Thanks Kenn Read More...

Wednesday WHIP: Recaps From Shea

There is a large majority of the staff at Global NYM not fortunate enough to attend Mets games on a regular basis, including myself. So when you decide to go to Shea you usually pick the game in advance and hope for a good one. Last night, I got lucky...again.

A year ago I was caught the game against the Cardinals in which the Mets staged that ridiculous comeback that was completed by Beltran's walk-off. Last night was just as good. Next week I'll be back on a more serious note. Today I'm on a bit of a time crunch with some sketchy free interent. So here's a few thoughts from my night at Shea...

There was a guy in the section next to me who became frustrated in the 9th when Wagner loaded the bases. At one of those moments when it's relatively quiet, he stood up and billowed, "CAN ANYONE PITCH ON THIS TEAM?!!" That's exactly what I felt at that moment.

The amount of boos last night were incredibly misdirected by those in attendance. Booing Sosa and Wagner was not really that necessary.

The weather was beyond disgusting. If we would have lost that game, it would not have made me happy that I sat in the rain to also lose feeling in my toes.

The Mets powers that be tried to convince me that last night's attendance was approx. 48, 000. Were you watching? There were not 48, 000 seats filled. It's too bad though...they missed a good one.

Excuse me Mr. Vendor...the pretzels at Shea are not slammin', jammin'. Yes those are the exact words he used.

Who is this guy named Carlos Beltran? And where was he from April until August? Stellar night from Beltran after being named NL Player of the Week.

If Castillo had not earned his full set of stripes after his big hit against Atlanta, then he is now officially outfitted in the orange and blue.

If you have too many drinks from a pineapple while in the Dominican Republic, you too may be able to belly flop like Moises Alou.

It felt like I was watching a different team at times last night. They fought back, at home, and refused to die last night. The pitching was mediocre again, but this team finally flexed it's offensive muscles. Hopefully the Mets can keep building the momentum and get into a real nice groove heading down the stretch. I'll be at today's game as well, which will have a tough job of outdoing last night's. My heart's got a bit of a soft spot for walk offs. Read More...

Best Day Ever

By Dan Nguyen

For anyone who has watched Sponge Bob like I have (I know you do Baron), you most likely have seen the episode where Sponge Bob sings “The Best Day Ever” song. As lame as that sounds, July 14th will be the Global NYM Fan Group’s best day ever.

At Global, we have built bonds and friendships through Facebook and July 14th was the day that we actually got to see the faces with who we created these bonds with. I was especially excited to see all the people who I talked to during in-games and late nights. I wanted to meet the people who accepted me as a regular of the group and found me as a friend.

Let me give you a small run-down on how my day started. I woke up late and didn't leave my house until 12:30. I wanted to get to the tailgate by two, but my friends wanted to grab a bite to eat at the Joshua Tree. After a little eating and drinking we left and I went to my favorite nerd shop, Midtown Comics, on 40th Street. After my nerd shopping was done, I finally got on the 7 with my friends and made it to Shea safely. I was told the meeting place for the tailgate was at Gate A in section G3 of the parking lot...and that’s thanks to Jersey Dan and Matt Kaufman who called to confirm. I finally arrived at the tailgate around 4:45, and there familiar “faces” such as Josh Springer, Steph Dutton, and Mike Rossi greeted me. Seeing and speaking with them I already felt like I was at home, like we were talking on Facebook. I then got to meet my fellow MLB Group Admin Abby. I didn’t get to talk to her that much, but we have talked a lot on Facebook, and it was just awesome meeting her. I then started to mingle with the other members like Victor who is now known as the infamous terrible towel user. I also got to meet Heather "Wild" Wildenberger, and she had to be the loudest person there besides Jersey and Zac. She was awesome to meet and it was awesome how she got into the faces of the Yankee fans that parked right next to us. Zac and Dan eventually came back from their beer run and boy was it a blast to finally meet these two. Zac and Dan are two people that have endless energy and can spice up anything, and it was truly an honor to meet them. We then got to meet Ray Dice Chan aka RAY DICE CHAN RAY DICE CHAN!!! I then got to me the man who runs the group with the VIP, Michael Peters. Peters was going just as nuts as Dan and Zac were.

We hung out for hours mingling, singing “Meet The Mets,” watching Zac do air humps, hearing Zac's proposal to piss in front of a car, taking group photos, and etc. We then finally hear of the arrival of the one and only CEO and Founder Matt VIP Regan, who was fashionably late. With his arrival our tailgate was complete. All or most of the regulars showed up and we partied on like rock stars.

One moment I’ll never forget is when we were walking toward the stadium yelling, “Lets Go Mets, Awhoo!; Lets Go Mets Awhoo!” We were about 30 strong but we had the strength of about 300. While we walked up the levels to get to our section, we all got to know each other even more. I got to talk to all the members more and get to know them and they made me feel like I knew them for years. I was isolated from the group during the game as I sat with my two friends who came to the game with me and took time out of their weekend to come and enjoy the game. I am sorry to all the members for not spending the game with them but it was one heck of a game. I did get to meet another regular of the group though, as Ali Jaffrey got to the game right before the first pitch. We then ragged on the Braves and Yanks and watched an awesome game. When the game ended, it was sad for me, as I couldn’t hang out with the group for the post game, and I had to leave abruptly.

That was the whole day for people who missed out on the game. At the end of this day what has this Global game brought us? It brought us a whole new bond. A bond stronger than the one we’ve built on Facebook. I know I may be going to deep here but this is the way I felt as I watched the actions of the group. I felt my bonds with my fellow friends in the group have grown stronger and have seen a new light. I know what they look like now. I know how they sound, act, and feel. With this historic day, it just brought us closer as a group and brought us further as a global family. I’m glad I spent the 25 dollars for this day, because in retrospective there is no amount of money that can give me an experience like I had today.

A note to all my friends-
I would just like to thank you guys for giving me the chance to get to know you and make friends with ya. I’m glad that I made friends who have the same passion as I do, even beyond the Mets. I feel like we have grown closer, even though it was just one day. I’m glad this day came and I’m glad I finally got to meet you guys. Thanks everyone and may we do more games or meet ups in the future.

A New Era of Blogging

It is with great pleasure and pride that I am here to announce the beginning of the next chapter in the global mets history book, with the launch of the group’s blog on the group’s one-year anniversary of existence.

What started out as one person’s dream to bring other fans together in one place to share the common interest and love for the greatest sports team in the world has really become more than what I could have imagined. When I started the facebook group, I figured it would get a few members, but I never knew more of it would come. After fighting off a few other rival mets groups at the start, the group quickly grew to become the largest mets group on facebook. Not only has it become the largest mets group on facebook as it approaches 14,000 members, it also happens to be the largest and most active mets-related social networking group on the whole Internet. The group has become more than just a regular group, and has turned into a community where lifetime friendships have been made. It’s no joke that people in this group have gone to baseball games together, partied together, text message each other, and more on a daily basis.

With growth comes new opportunities and new ideas. Sure we have the facebook group, but why just limit ourselves to that? With so many great members from all age ranges, it only makes sense to do more. So here it is, globalnym’s official blog. We are more than just a regular blog; we are a blog representing some of the greatest and passionate fans in the world. Any one of our 14,000 members is more than welcome to be apart of this blog and contribute. This is what sets us apart from all other blogs out there and this is what will make this project a success.

Finally, I would personally would like to thank each and every one of you for making this possible. I can’t say it enough, but it’s the members who make globalnym what it is today and without each and everyone of you, the group would be nothing. Believe me when I say this, but this is only the beginning.
