Mets Re-Sign Castro
The Mets and Ramon Castro have agreed to a 2 year deal worth just over $4 million. Castro is expected to backup/spit time with soon to be acquired Yorvit Torrealba.
I've always been a big fan of Castro, especially this past season, when he quietly hit .285 with 11 Home Runs, 31 RBIs and 24 runs scored in only 144 at bats.
To get a feel for how good that actually is, I ran some statistics through excel, and found that, among players with 100 or more at bats, Castro had the 10th best AB/HR ratio in baseball at 1 home run every 13.091 at bats, and the 15th best AB/RBI ratio in baseball at 1 RBI every 4.645 at bats.
Of course it's unfair to assume that he would maintain such a ridiculous pace, especially considering Castro has never been a starting catcher for an entire season, and is injury prone.
