Monday Memories: Mota? Try Rojas!

How else can I describe my feelings towards today's memory? Why would I remember such a person? Why did the Mets out any kind of trust into this guy's arm? Who in the world could I be so bitter about? Why am I asking so many questions? Today's memory is none other than... (wait for it)
Mel Rojas! *crack of lightning*

Yes, Mel Rojas. Everyone remembers Mel, right? 54 earned runs and 36 walks in just over 84 innings to give him a 5.76 ERA. Yep, he was some talented pitcher! Or am I just being sarcastic...

Where in the world has Mel been since his Mets days? Anyone have a clue?

My research shows that after leaving the Mets in 1998, Rojas pitched for the Dodgers, Tigers, and Expos in 1999, compiling an 18.00 ERA in 14.0 IP with a 2.21 WHIP. This disaster forced him into retirement, but somehow he had a very healthy 3.82 career ERA over 10 seasons, with a 34-31 record and 126 saves.

Wow. That really is a healthy ERA for such a dismal end to his career. Who knew...

He had a few very good years then suddenly and completely lost it. I wonder what happened?
