Growing up as a die hard Mets fan as a kid, one of the most lasting memories I have of the Mets and of Shea Stadium during the 90s was a promotion day the Mets used to do every once and a while called the Dyna-Mets Dash. This was the day when the kids would get to go down to the field after the game and run around the bases. This was a great event for kids, and one many children would look forward too. I can remember my dad specifically buying tickets to these games so my brother and I could run the bases after the game.

Todays game, originally scheduled originally scheduled for 1:10 PM was supposed to be followed by the Mr. Met Dash (the modern day version of the Dyna-Mets Dash).

However, because ESPN, "The Worldwide Leader in Sports" decided they wanted to broadcast tonight's Mets-Dodgers game nationally, they forced the game time to be changed to 8:05 PM so that they can have a prime time slot.

This, to the disappointment of children everywhere, forces the cancellation of the Mr. Met Dash. In fact this isn't even the first time ESPN has done this.

This is just another example of the Mets and ESPN screwing over the fans once again. The Mr. Met Dash aside, thousands of people bought tickets to today's game probably planning to go with their family to a Sunday afternoon game at Shea. Now because big bad ESPN came along at the last minute and decided they wanted to get good ratings for the "Sunday Night Game of the Week" thousands of kids who have school the next morning and thousands of adults who have work the next morning can't go to the game they bought tickets to.

It's bad enough the Mets are robbing kids of the Mr. Met Dash, but now most of them can't even go to the game because of the 8 O'Clock Start. Nice job ESPN.

So rather than talking about the pounding the Mets took at the hands of the Nats today, I thought I'd just pretend today's pitching debacle didn't happen and talk about something else.

So SNY debuted it's new show "Beer Money" tonight (an hour after it was supposed to be on) but none the less, the show wasn't half bad, basically this guy and this girl go around sporting venues and sports bars in the tri-state and ask random fans New York sports trivia questions for cash.

Despite the fact that you can only win a max of $130, which is just pathetic for a game show that was made after 1960, it was kinda fun answering the questions myself, and watching the stupid people on the show miss the softballs being tossed their way. The one thing that bothered me about the first episode tonight were the pathetic bandwagon Mets fans that didn't know simple Mets history that the average 5 year old mets fan knows.

Honestly, there was this one guy decked out in Mets gear, he looked like a true blue fan, the question came up about the Mets all time leader in wins with 198. This idiot's answer was "Ryan Nolan"... yes Ryan Nolan... the backwards name of the 24 year old prospect who we traded for Jim Fregosi in what may be one of the worst trades in baseball history... come on Ryan Nolan??? Ok, maybe not everyone knows it's Tom Seaver, but if you claim to be a Mets fan how could you not at least guess Tom Seaver... hell it would have even been somewhat acceptable if he guessed Koosman or Doc, but Nolan Ryan? a guy who only won 29 games with the Mets? come on.

Anyways, check out Beer Money, on SNY, I'm not sure what time it's normally going to be on, but I think it's on this week at 11PM, so check it out.

Equally important, Ownership will continue its commitment in providing the resources necessary to field a championship team. Omar will be meeting with Ownership shortly to present his plan on addressing our shortcomings so that we can achieve our goal of winning championships in 2008 and beyond.

Heartbroken, anger, and disbelief, are just a few of the many emotions being shown by the 15,000+ members in the facebook group after the Mets historic meltdown.

Who can really blame them? This wasn’t the ending we all planned on. Two weeks ago we held a very comfortable 7 game lead with 17 to play. We were sitting in the driver’s seat looking at the SNY pocket schedule, seeing 13 of our last 17 games against the lowly Nationals and Marlins. In a year full of injuries and so called disappointments this is when we were finally going to get it done. Guess what? It didn’t happen, but life moves on.

Though we didn’t win the World Series, there are many individual moments that us as fans can look back on and be very proud of. Watching things like the continuing development of young players Lastings Milledge and Mike Pelfrey, exciting plays like the Endy Chavez drag bunt or the Carlos Beltran catch in Houston, the scoreless inning streaks of Pedro Feliciano and rookie Joe Smith, Tom Glavine’s 300th career win, John Maine’s two near no hitters, Shawn Green chasing Hank Greenberg for the all-time Jewish home run record, the return of Pedro Martinez, etc… these are the things that when I look back on the 2007 Mets I’m going to remember.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m just as upset as the rest of you. But in a year in which 99% of us are going to call it a letdown, there are those little things that we should all take with us, that we can all look back on, and that we can all remember to put an instant smile on our faces. The game between the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, August 26 is now scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m. ET to accommodate ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.

Tickets showing the original start time of 1:10 p.m. ET for the August 26 game should still be used for admission.

What's the big deal you may be asking yourself? Well, every year the Mets hold a very special promotion for kids ages 12 and under. This popular promotion allows them to run the bases at Shea, like their favorite baseball players. Thousands of kids look forward to this event each year and now because of the switch in times, the event has been canceled.

SAN FRANCISCO -- With the crack of the bat a brief stillness settled over the right-center field bleachers at AT&T Park as Barry Bonds' record-breaking homer rocketed toward the crowd.

Then the scrum was on.

Police escort the fan who caught Barry Bonds' ball out of the stadium.

As the specially marked baseball landed a few rows up, dozens of fans wrestled for it and the promise of riches it carried. Suddenly, the metal bleachers vibrated with energy. Grunts, cheers and the cries of frightened children broke the silence as parents sought to shield their youngsters from the chaos.

In the middle of it all was 22-year-old New Yorker Matt Murphy, who emerged from beneath the pile holding the ball Bonds hit for career home run No. 756. His face was bloodied and his clothes stretched and torn from his battle in the bleachers.

A team of San Francisco police officers moved in, extracted Murphy from the crowd, and quickly led him through a tunnel and into a secure room.

As he high-fived other fans, Murphy, wearing a New York Mets Jose Reyes jersey and cap, slid the ball into the back pocket of his plaid Bermuda shorts.

Reporters screamed out questions, but all he managed to say was, "I'm Matt Murphy from Queens, N.Y."

"I just hope he didn't get hurt," Bonds said after the game, which the Giants lost 8-6 to the Washington Nationals. He said he had no interest in getting the ball back for himself.

"I don't want the ball," Bonds said. "I've never believed a home run ball belonged to the player. If he caught it, it's his."

Murphy and a friend were en route to Australia and in San Francisco for a one-day layover, a Giants spokesman said. They purchased tickets just before the game.

He and the friend, dressed in New York Yankees regalia, were razzed by nearby Giants fans. "Hey, this isn't New York!," one shouted. Murphy and his friend just laughed it off before settling into their seats.

Murphy declined to make himself available to the media.

Baseball memorabilia experts have pegged the ball's value at $400,000 to $500,000. That's well below the $3 million fetched by the ball Mark McGwire hit to break Roger Maris' single-season home run record in 1998, but still a hefty sum. Read More...

A New York man has been charged with beating his mother to death with a barbell after losing his temper while watching a baseball game on television.

Michael Anthony, 25, was watching the New York Mets lose a game on Saturday from his home in the borough of Queens when he began furiously banging on the walls, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement on Monday.

His father Fred Fischman shouted at him to stop, but Anthony punched him in the face and threw him to the ground, according to the criminal charges.

When Anthony's mother, Maria Fischman, 61, tried to intervene, prosecutors said he stabbed her once in the head with a knife before chasing her into a bedroom where he struck her several times with the 20 pound (9 kilogram) barbell.

"It is difficult to imagine a crime more heinous than that of a son viciously attacking his parents and, in the process, fatally beating his mother to death," Brown said.

Anthony has been remanded in custody and faces a maximum of life in prison if convicted. Read More...
